I think a high speed train is a no brainer.
Bne got no beach and gc needs the bne jobs.
I think it's a really smart Idea that would be well worth the investment.
    Would really help tourism too

No surprise really that it's Brisbane. Where else was going to build it? Jakarta? Singapore? Jo'burg? Lapaz?

Isnt the train between Gold coast and Brissie is pretty close to high speed as it is?

I remember reading that it does over 100kph where it can.

The old line in the built up areas around BNE where what was slowing it down?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

We might be getting a new tallest, but Australia already has the tallest building in the southern hemisphere which also happens to be on the Gold Coast and only a few metres shorter.

In my previous job I was involved with the design of Brisbane's tallest buildings, which are still under construction as we speak (a good 50m or so short of the Gold Coast ones).

Surely we mean high speed trains like those overseas >300km/hr?

No they are not very quick. Seem a lot slower than Sydney trains. And too many stops.

That is true. But still need that high speed link between the Gold coast and the Brisbane CBD

These kind of developments are ridiculous in Australia and I don't even know why they get approved. It's like we are desperate to prove that we have international cities or something.

My husband knows a guy that lives in Eureka Tower in Melbourne and the building is a virtual ghost town. Only like 2-3 apartments on his level are occupied.

If you want to bring asian tourists and compete with the likes of singapore and Dubai, you will have to build these structures unfortunately. it is easier for GC to build these and bring the tourist economy instead of building a university and bringing quality students from asia

    Yes. I think you're right.

It's still worth noting that the trains as they currently are aren't slow tbu
    Right. Got it wrong.

Dubai is a fake city - it doesn't have much character. Tourists go to places that are unique or interesting. The countries with the most tourism in the world actually have very few skyscrapers. Places like France, Italy and Spain would be in the top 5 and they are not even remotely associated with that kind of town planning.

Yup. And I see no plans in the pipeline to build a high speed link.
(maybe there is, I don't have full visibility)

    This is very correct.
Its about getting the balance right. Barangaroo is a good example of that. Queens Wharf isn't.
We will get there don't worry. My intensive lobbying will get this point home even to the BCC...eventually.

Well, with respect it's really not a matter for you to be concerned about in terms of viability. Rathers is a matter for developers, those who fund them (shareholders and banks) and of course the buyers.

Gold Coast is demonstrating to Australia and the world that it is "growing up" as an international lifestyle hub. Further, amazing architecture does in itself serve as an attraction - think Singapore. Dubai, Hong Kong etc.

But perhaps more importantly Gold Coast is leading Australia in terms of the shift to high rise living. It already has the highest % of population per city living in highrise. As this trend will continue as the population surges and as demand to live in close proximity beach continues unabated.

Best way to play Gold Coast is to buy devel
Actually Gold Coast is doing both. Their universities are growing rapidly.

These 3 countries are where people go for amazing architecture, food, culture and lifestyle. Which is also the exact reason Gold Coast is becoming increasingly popular.

I don't understand the appeal of these buildings. You get a nice observation deck style view, but the high floors are totally enclosed. Feels very disconnected, why go to a beach if you're just going to look at it from behind thick glass.
