Here I was complaining to one of my distant workmates yesterday about the prices of my IP 's going way way way way down .

He is 44 and single and still rent / shares with 3 other guys

He got jealous and said to me I should be lucky that I own several properties and he still has to Rent, same with my other work colleague, although she's younger at 29 but married and no PPOR

Now I told him he is luckier than me , his health is better , he is fitter ,he didn't drive taxis as a second job at night in Sydney picking up halfwits ,he didn't risk his life and being utterly bored standing part time 5 hours as a bouncer outside a pub as a second night job., no he went to the pub instead .

No instead he went to Phuket , Bali , he went to the gym and tanning studios and he went to the USA and he had the best clothes

As with the 29yo lady she is married and I felt sorry for her still renting , until she told me her and her husband had spent over $250 at a Darling Harbour Restaurant the previous Saturday before !

She can't understand despite them both working earning combined 150k a year why they can't save a deposit , she's blaming foreign investors !

So don't come with the compassionate stuff unless your under 28 , but if your over 40 and still no home ,doesn't wash with sympathy with me if you had been working all that time.

Now I'm in my late 40's and I have one PPOR fully paid off and a IP's with mortgages and I could easily go overseas BUT I need to make some sacrifices to get ahead so 2017 I have decided that 10k that was for my holiday will go down in paying down a IP.

September is when I get my 4 weeks annual leave from my office job, I would dearly love to go to the USA , but I have decided that I will drive Uber or work my annual leave as a security guard or cleaner or something and sacrifice a holiday this year.
I don't want to , I would dearly love to go on holidays , but I can't afford it so I don't do it this year.

Young people wouldn't do that nowadays

And whilst doing part time security work I would see guys sinking their wages into the poker machines !

Not just $5 but their whole fortnightly wage !
Some of these guys were earning $1500 a week clear and spend the whole lot on a Friday night.

Plus gambling in horse and greyhound races usually losing and then getting angry the favourite lost

These were mostly labourer type guys who I would see go to the ATM withdraw a hundred or so and he back at the ATM 10 minutes later to withdraw more .

And these were not young guys but guys mostly over 35 to 55

The pub would give them credit on their drinks so they would come back every Friday to play the pokies !
Then they are up at the Pawnbrokers on the weekend hocking goods and blaming the hard working Pawnbroker for their gambling losses !

There is no shortage of idiots & will only get worse as generations are handed everything and think the norm is to whine and complain when you do not have something someone else does.

It should hardly be surprising, I see the reaction even many PMs display when your from Sydney, or you have more than one investment.......

Nothing new here. Your just describing mediocrity with the cancerous attitude of blaming everyone and everything else for what they don't have. Very common these days.

everyone has their own circumstances, you don't know these people that well
    don't judge them.

same old stuff that on these forums forever, maybe 10, 20 threads on it on already :)

I blame foreigners, the government, investors, my neighbours dog, neighbours dogs fleas..don't laugh- those fleas can be a real pest.
Pretty much anyone except me :)

I need to go book a $75 per head table at my favourite restaurant now, before it gets busy :)

Ah, the same tripe that shows up on PropertyChat once more.

Don't let facts like income inequality get in the way. Don't worry about wages being flat or falling in real terms while credit expansion has inflated a massive housing bubble.

I mean, it's the perfect PropertyChat story isn't it? These spendthrifts going on holidays and eating out and that's why they can't buy a house.

The massive housing bubble has nothing to do with it. Negative gearing and the CGT discount - nope.

The fact is that people today spend less on food, alcohol, travel, clothing and entertainment than previous generations. They spend more on housing. They earn less in real dollars while housing costs multiples more than it ever has.

But nope, an anecdote about some people going to a restaurant is the real truth! Don't worry about verifiable evidence.

    Yeh.
Let's just ignore that these people are in their 40s,
Their only chance to buy must have been in the last 3-5 years in an inflated Sydney markets

I was only today speaking to a new work colleague.
    Born in India,
Dad died when he was 4,
His mum and family moved to Aus when he was 11, they had nothing.
He's now 44, and VERY comfortable. Owned his own place a long time ago.
    He must've been very lucky.

Some people just don't get it... I've always believed that "you can't have it all" - or you can eventually... but not all at once.
