I looked for quality bargain and value for Money, I pay for quality not so much brand or fashion
so I just go and bargain hard for these quality :D
I get a lot of pleasure using quality products so I dont mind paying for them

I like Japanese made car and I think value proposition is good so I prefer to pay for those over German made car
I like Japanese made electronic like Camera, Microwaves and German made white goods
I like my Italian espresso machine etc...

I prefer iPhones, it could be seen as fashion :) but having use other products still prefer iPhones for its quality.

Love good food so I don't mind spend above average a little upper end for fresh produce and nicer ingredient but not crazy expensive restaurant or some famous chef restaurant (probably good stuff but not value for money, can get some as good at cheaper price tag)

Good points, I guess it comes down to value and what gives you pleasure. and weighing it all up

Much like you I like good coffee and good food, would happily spend a couple hundred on a good meal out with a view of the city but may only spend $10 on a no brand T shirt. I like wearing suits etc for work and pleasure but finding a good sale at Zara most of my full suits cost less than $200. next dilemma to work out is cars. I could buy 2 perfectly good Hyundai Tuscons for both me and partner ($60k) or I could easily go and buy a Demo X3 for $75k and a Tuscon for her. $105k vs $60k - just need to work out which one makes more sense.

Give Japanese made car a go, the one that manufacture in Japan, I love their attention to details and quality ..

All my car if it not made in Japan I don't buy them, so Toyota it has to be Toyota Japan, not Thailland
same with Mazda or Subaru or Honda

I run them for decades without any issues, I just got another Japanese Toyota to Replace my Japanese Honda that now in its 15 years no issues just it done nearly 300K and I like to live up a bit with newer stuff
Honda still going strong so we still keep it

It is through the Dargal website which I use as an airline employee. Prices are in $US + taxes.
But all cruise prices will be well down over the next few months, airfares too.
Bahamas - RCCL - Grandeur of the Seas
    Roundtrip: Baltimore
    8nt from $205 - Price Drop!

You'll be quarantined in your cabin all day, looking out the porthole, watching the Bahamas in pajamas.

Uno slighto problemo.... Cost to get to cruiseship in Baltimore
BTW, typically cruises out of USA are far cheaper than from OZ.

And no fun being stuck in an inside cabin.

Yes that was unbelievable: last month, 17 (IIRC) nights on the Queen Mary, Fremantle-Sydney via the top end from $833 twin share. Cheaper than staying at home! There are a number of local P&O cruises coming up from about $120 a night, twin share.

I self manage my rental properties, not out of necessity, but to save both my time and my money as PMs used to call me for every minor item even if I had given them authorisation for expenditure (ie duplication).

Savings per property are 15-17% of rental income with me spending an average of less than 30 mins per week on managing the portfolio. Each property will probably change tenants every 18 months (on average) and at that point the work level increases to 3-4 hours per week until the property is leased.

Based on just one property at $500 pw the saving is $75pw for that property (on average).

So even, just considering one property in my portfolio, there is no need to be frugal, simply sensible will suffice!

I also value my time and will normally put a cost against me repairing something versus having someone in to do it, (The problem with getting someone in is that there normally needs to be someone to meet and greet and be present, so that is part of the reasoning).

BTW, I loved the comment in post #68 “just smart and targeted spending”.

I spend whatever needs to be spent and move on.

For me, frugal is another definition of tightwad as many do not put a value on their time.

    Agree.
Would you prefer your RIP stone hedge to say:
'Here lies X with most toys'
    OR
'Here lies most generous lovable X'?

    I agree with you!

This thread is all about being frugal.. which is quite depressing. I wonder what the well off folks here on this thread actually spend money on? My old uni Prof was a real tightarse.. despite being cashed up.. but he liked to splurge on Mont Blanc pens.. used to carry around $10k worth in his top pocket. Found it very odd. But everyone must have something they splurge on..
