Been in this house now for 10 years, if we did sell probably not for another 5 years.
I think the vote is keep a bath. Before we go ahead I think I will phone some re agents in the area. lts a tough one because the area is a mixed bag, its not a traditional family area.

    thanks everyone for the feedback.

Shower over bath? You could still achieve the same look then.

Depends on your life stage - IMHO it's wasted real Estate where you can enjoy the space while you live there and replace it when you come to sell.

If there's no agent going thru the house, you're not selling.

Keeping 1 bath in a family home is a must

Not if you don't use it.

I have a hobless/walk-in shower where I have put in a shower chair at times, I would have had issues if I had to hop into a tub as it's difficult when you're on crutches.

I hate baths. I would gladly buy a property with no bath.

My sister loves baths. She would never buy a property without a bath.

    It's very individual.

Maybe less people choosing to have kids? You know I am building a 4x2 house in Cloverdale now. I spoke to a number of leasing agents and real estate agents when designing it and every one said to put in a bath.

Are there any good agents in your area you could chat to about this?

I have 3 kids and about to do a bathroom reno, We will be keeping a bath as we have the room but besides that the little one 5yrs (Will have a bath once per week at least) the other two are older so they just want to be in and out to get back to technology.

It must be 5yrs since I had a bath as I prefer showers, Even shower after having a bath as I feel cleaner. My wife likes the idea of having a bath and relaxing but with 3 kids it isn't going to happen for another 15yrs.

So my vote is for a Bath even a small bath is better than no bath IMO.

Come on now... can't you take them to the park for an hour and let your wife have that bath? ;)

    I'm a shower person.

Our kids used the bath when small, and now it is used occasionally by grandchildren.

I would prefer to have a house with a bath, but not a "must have".

But I love bath (and no, don't want kids ).... whenever I booked for hotels I purposely look for one with bath. When it was winter in Japan, the hotel bathtub is a life saver o_O

I've never, ever heard a real estate agent say it is a good idea to remove a bath, or to not have a bath. This is in any areas where we have lived ourselves, or have IPs.

I realise that perhaps in, say, The Woolstores and similar types, there aren't many "families" as much as singles and couples.

So @MTR I'd be interested to know what the result of your questions to the local agents would be. You say it is a family area?

This is what the re agent advised.

Baths are important if you can not fit it in the space then the other option is to have larger shower space, with perhaps 2 shower heads.

Another option is bathroom in the ensuite, seen as luxurious and desirable.
    We could do this.

Nope, that won't help you either! I am childfree and enjoy the occasionally bath for a few different reasons depending on my mood at the time.

Whether bath / no bath in a house being deal maker or breaker when buying a house though I'm not sure.

    * To spite

I recently pulled out a bath and replaced it with just a shower.. much more practical for my demographics though. Link with pics here..

Bathroom and ensuite reno with pics

All women like baths because their plumbing is different to men and they like soaking. For men it's not really an issue.

I was going to say that I know men who like baths too. I don't think it is a gender thing.
