A couple more stars in API ... DT and Corey. No front cover this time, but you'll find their mugshots on pages 94-96...

For PC members to make it into API ? Of course... any half intelligent editor of a property mag in this land should be using the experienced PC contributors as contributors ...

There are plenty of members here who could be the source of some better quality content than the sort of stuff that tends to dominate the mags these days ... August's edition brings us for example, the story of a couple who have amassed a 2.02 million portfolio , built over 10 years - ie since 2006.

Nothing wrong with that effort of course, and they should be applauded for doing something rather than nothing, but if the magazine is supposed to be inspirational, it shouldn't go unnoticed that they have accumulated @ 497K net equity after 10 years and a total yield of less than 6% after 10 years ....

It's worthy of a multi page spread in API. Ok fine. But I suspect these sorts of articles aren't going to have anyone here running to the newsagents ...

So their portfolio has gone from $1.5m to $2m in 10 years? Inspirational.

Shame its so crap. There's the odd article I'd like to read but it looks like most is utter tosh. Can't justify the cost or waste sadly. Would be better if you could just download non bs articles and leave the less than inspiring 'So and so has built x $ debt erm..I mean..portfolio' stories.

Try to stay objective. I agree with you there is a lot of nonsense in all the property magazines but putting the emotions aside if in 10 years of buying, if only 1 tip, 1 insight, 1 contact pays off nicely then personally I think it's more than worth the cost. I've taken away some great insights over the years and made good $$$.

    just my opinion though :)

    I bought the july edition.
4 different portfolios on show. Mediocre equity positions, majority of them based on PPR equity in Sydney and went out interstate over the past 6 years and geared up, yet to generate anything of substance. Would have been better off loading up on one more in Sydney.

    Api is rubbish.

Each to their own. I don't have a problem with objectivity. I'd be happy to pay for the good stuff without having to pay for 10years of nonesense whilst looking for the occasional gem.

Every mention of a magazine and it all goes to **** because don't like the magazines. This thread is about specific content, about specific stories with specific people from PC

I've learnt buckets from the mags starting out as i didn't want to commit to reading a book (not enough pictures). They are general but do cover lots of topics and great way to learn

Well done gents! will look out for my mate James the postie in the coming days

Yes I did say each to their own, and I'm not trying to detract fro DT and Corey's content. I'd like to pay for and read their insights without sorting through the rest. Anyway, carry on!

It's not the subjects of the article that are the problem - the couple in question are obviously trying and they've certainly got more going for them than 90% of the population , so fair play to them... it's that API considers that sort of content to be good enough to warrant several pages and still wants to be taken seriously. And it's like this month in and month out, for the most part.

I understand that it must be hard to find several good stories about accomplished investors every month, but Australia is a property mad nation, so finding interesting stories once in a while cant be that hard, surely? Maybe the investors with more interesting stories decline to be featured? I know many here are fairly private about their wealth and probably would participate if approached.

Actually I wondered how accurate are those valuations of those properties in API. Sometimes I looked at them and I think, they just made it up just to make them look more successful, in order to sell more magazines.

Then I just had my IP desktop valued and it came out an amazing number which shocked me .....

A number quiet happy to share in writing no doubt! You wouldn't put the lesser val in a mag would you. Some figures seem out there but they may have had a fortunate valuation

I think a big part is that API are casting a wide net. John and Mary Smith who bought a few IPs that haven't done amazing, are still light years ahead of most Mum and Dads out there. These types of features can seem a lot more "tangible" to folks who have yet to dip their toe in or aren't obsessed like half of the posters here.

It could be be intimidating and seem unrealistic to see 30 year olds with $5mil portfolios producing $50k a year after tax in every issue.

I imagine also, that most API readers who are bent on achieving big things are fairly transient readers. They absorb everything they can, then migrate to other information sources (such as this forum, and their networks). I'd be surprised if, say, PropertyChat posters are API's #1 target audience.

I'm sure @Daisycutter4 will be happy to see the discussion here and might have some stuff to add :)

That's where most of the Domain articles come from right?
