I'm going to check out the Latin American mass in Ashgrove Brisbane I speak fluent Spanish and I went to quite a lot of Catholic mass in Costa Rica where I went to high school so that will be quite interesting and they also have lunch together afterwards.

Amongst checking out the other churches too. I will shop around

Yes good to see how you feel in the community. I joined the RCIA one year although I'm already baptised. It's invigorating to see how Newbies transformed.....

I'd like to join a church which is easy going, you know, not too strict. One that doesn't condemn you to eternal damnation if you bend the rules a little.

Damn you damsels have ruined me! lol.

There can be a huge variance within a denomination sometimes as well. A big part of the Sydney Anglicans for instance are very fundamentalist, although some are very traditional Anglican. Try before you buy. You can only tell how a place is when you go.

Mucha buena suerte. (I speak some Spanish, enough to get by, but not fluently. Two years ago I worked in Colombia for three months).

    It's hard to say.

"Enthusiasm", and "..a lot happening" might mean a Hillsong concert and/or that scene from The Exorcist...

    Care to elaborate?

    Ha Ha,
I joined a Catholic choir once because I liked the singing.. I met a lovely gay bloke there, who also joined the choir. He told me he joined the choir so that a gay bloke might see him singing and fall in love with him!

I go as often as I can.
Most time the pass me a platter with money for my attendance. It's very nice of them.
    A fine place indeed.

I go to church, for weddings and funerals, but I've decided I'm not going for baptisms anymore.

Sounds like your looking for a church that affirms your world view. Might be best you keep doing what your doing and not worry about being told how to improve your life by living to the drum beat of any particular theology.

You need to be a high roller to join the church of Scientology.

@Whitecat If you already have beliefs, why do you need to go to a church? Can you just have your beliefs and practise in your own home/on your own? Serious question.
I feel that churches are really just in it for the cash, and to recruit as may followers as they can to make more cash.. I think if you have your beliefs and values, that should be good enough for any god.

In my view, it's similar benefits to what we get by being in the property chat community. You get to meet with other people who have a similar world view, but people that you can learn from, who inspire you, or that you can yourself help.

And you'll find the average church these days is broke as it gets and giving away what little it can. Not exactly a money spinner. :p

enthusiastic as in plenty of activities, motivated. I like the enthusiasm of Hillsong but they might be a little full-on for me.

Some churches are more focussed on cash than others. I think many churches are well connected to genuine charitable activities in social services.

I have some beliefs but I am open to hearing other beliefs and refining my own.
The reason I am looking for a church in no particular order is:

    Community
    Support
    Friendship
    People to pray with
    Philosophical discussion
Tips about how to live a happy life
    Role models
    Singing
    Learn about history
    Shared meals
    Counselling
    Business/practical networking
Meet a partner and be part of a community with that partner
Motivation and assistance with personal growth

Yes I could find those things outside of church one way or another (perhaps on PC :)) but church is a way to find a lot of that in one place.
