I have lived in parts of Australia and Europe with no running water or electricity. Does that count?

Kununurra had a third world feel but with running water and electric (in our house anyway). I'm guessing not everyone up there bothers with it though.

    Your lat/long is Bora Bora?....cool....

    Yep - I know a few people.....
I was one in myself - working in Western Tanzania and then Cambodia for a few years.
Both occasions I sorted tank/running water and solar/generator power after a relatively short time - makes life so much easier, regardless of where you are.....
Got to keep medicines (and beer) cold.....:)

Tough life for the locals - illness, injury and death is much more common than in Australia - often from preventable diseases.
No access to good information and education is a real issue....change is slow.

Lived in PNG but had water and electricity. Not everyone did, though.

I did 2 years in Viet Nam + 3 years in Cambodia, now back in Viet Nam for a year so far. More than 10 years out of Australia so far now.
Cambodia was grim living wise, a lot different to visiting on holidays.
Water was plumbed in and electricity hooked up, but didn't mean it always worked!
Investing in property remotely comes with some challenges.

I have a daughter who has been travelling for four months through the middle east and Africa. She has four months to go. She has just finished a four month stint working for an orphanage in Uganda.
