I've done two Nepal trips that were 18 days of walking. India trip was 7 days of walking. Typically do around 15 km a day on a trek but some days can be 20+.

I prefer to do daywalks in the 5 to 15km range.

Trekking can be a glamping experience but generally not. Accomodation / facilities can be basic. It's worthwhile roughing it for the experience.

My current camera is an Olympus OMD em5 mkII with the 14-150mm lense. More comfortable to walk with than a heavy SLR.

I depart for 2 weeks of cycling in Cuba in December :p

Thanks! Plan to do a big central Australia road trip instead of jetsetting next year.

Very keen to hear about your Cuba travels - we're cycle touring there (with kids) this time next year for 2.5weeks. Love to hear how you go

@ellejay is your guide for NZ.

There's several great walks/rides in the Bogong High Plains - Mt Hotham to Falls Creek as well as Spion Kopje, Mt Bogong, Feathertop, Buffalo and surrounds.

If you haven't booked yet, consider doing the Everest Circuit. This is a longer trek than the base camp trek. It will take you up the Gokyo Valley and over the Cho La Pass before rejoining the main Everest trail. You'll acclimatise better over the longer trip ( generally 18 days on trek with a rest day at Namche Bazaar ).

One of the highlights is crossing the glacier on the Cho La Pass. I also recommend doing the trip over the Xmas, New year period. It's mid-winter but generally less moisture in the atmosphere so fewer clouds and better for photos. Around 5-10 degree temperatures for walking at the higher altitudes. Gets down to well below zero overnight ( -20 ish ).

Also trails less busy and dusty in winter ( fewer yak and donkey trains ).

I've done a few walks over the years....

Glass House Mountains (3 peaks in a day)
Mount Kinabalu - 4096m (no. 20 on world's list of prominent peaks)
Trekking in the Golden Triangle - Thailand
Shenandoah Mountains & Valley - VA, USA
Backpacking through Cambodia (lots of long walks)
Many State Forest walks up east coast of Australia.
    Canyoning in Blue Mountains

The Fitness Trend Men Everywhere Can’t Get Enough Of

American soldiers have been doing a simple fitness activity since the American Revolution, and it’s turned our military into the fittest, most feared fighting force in the history of the world.

That activity: rucking, or walking with a weighted pack on your back.

Aussie climber dies on Mt Everest

Friend of mine died on Mount Everest yesterday. Unfortunately he didn't make the summit. He had been on the mountain 6 weeks in preparation for his summit attempt Saturday. Id say his body wont be recovered from that high up. He died doing what he loved at least. He leaves behind his wife Sandy and children.

    Vale Frank.

I'm off on my next trip soon. The trip is to Kenya in July. A 5-day walk ascending to and descending from the top of the crater on Mt Kenya ( 4985m ). My first trip to Africa.

Walking 64km, although from experience distance is likely to be greater. As it is a walk to altitude and due to increased heart rate / metabolism will hopefully lose 1-2kg whilst away.

Spend 27% of the time away travelling to get there and get home!
