With winter coming on and public response to localised outbreak stripping supermarket shelves again (eg Adelaide) plus the mutations and issues with vaccines (rollout delays, side effects), are others throwing a few extras in the trolley "just in case"?

No and I didn't even do it the first time. No way I'm partaking in this stupidity.

Which localised outbreak - I can’t see anything on my news sources?

I went to Bunnings and bought an extra 15 metre garden hose. You can't take chances these days.

Sorry Joynz, typo - we were just talking about Adelaide. Meant to refer to the outbreak in March in QLD!

Nah, with winter coming nothing worse than walking over wet grass and ruining the Ugg boots.

    :(
Just wondering if this feels any different to the others?

I was around for 90's recession and GFC but now am on my own with 10 and 8 year old. This seems more unpredictable and I need to know there are supplies in the house if I became unwell for an extended time. Maybe I'm just more of a worrier:(

Friend used to get so mad at the hose snippers, cause they always used to cut at the tap end ... suppose it was easier to find in the dark. She just wished they'd take from the lose end and be done with it

As for dooms daying ... I usually have a couple of weeks of foodstuff (mainly packaged), that can create some sort of meal, in the house at any given time ... but won't panic and hoard until the Ebola airborne version hits the streets

I don’t really see that as ‘doomsday prepping’. Just prepping!

I always have tins of things in the cupboard. And I still have the dried lentils I bought last year!

In Melbourne’s pandemic lockdown last year (as the death rate was rising), it was very comforting to know that I was ready - should things turn to custard. And without family here, I knew I would need to look after myself.

It’s very sensible to keep stocked up.

And (in normal times) it saves wasting too much time going to the shops every few days.

    For me, no different.

It is just part of being alive, so I get on with living, with life.

The only thing that annoys me is the panic-merchants, the hoarders, ... - they turn calm into PANIC

I'm still using up excess groceries from last year. Lockdown in SEQ is hardly a real lockdown - heck I was even expected to turn up at work every day during lockdown. With Woolies, Bunnings, Dans and every beach and cafe still open, the only difference to outside lockdown was the lack of traffic and how easy it was to get a carpark right outside your chosen "necessary" commercial premises.

Nah,not me i have 6 laying hens who lay 5 per day and they are good to talk too, grow our own veg's ,plus have not had a drink in a long time so it's just the new normal what ever that is..
Like other's have already said, driving around inner Brisbane late yesterday and early this morning it's like the 1970's traffic wise ,as there is just no one on the roads ..
I would be more worried if i was in invested in other area's like others in this site,as i think professional fund managers are fast approaching the ''TIPPING--POINT''..

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he'll continue to feed his family.
(Actually he'll just sit in a little tin boat drinking beer, but I digress).

Completely unrelated, but I bought a new hunting bow last year...

Last year, an enterprising local lass arranged for local seafood pickup every few weeks during restaurant closures. Her contacts at Mooloolaba own a prawn trawler and had to keep paying all their costs, so they kept fishing. They had to move hundreds of kilos of perfectly good prawns while their regular orders were cancelled. We were a tad cranky when restaurants reopened.

I think this is no where near as bad as the late 80's or mid 90s recession.
The GFC was mainly US and EU and the main problem here was the banks exposure to their banks, for which our gov went guarantor for them.
Other than the Mar/Apr period, generally it's been good and great for some.
Savings are up, discretionary spending is up and the gov is raining money.

Exceptions are hospitality and entertainment, many employees getting money for nothing.
For the eployers not so good.

Spending has quietened down a down last few moths and is back to about normal, though many import still hard to get keepng prices up.
