    Hi Greg,

    I'm still at it.
Joined an Athletics Club in Wollongong which is a 1 hour drive for me.
They do Wednesday night meets for the whole summer season Oct-Mar, lots of masters there too so I really like it.
They do all events too including Pole Vault, Hammer Throw, etc so it's great fun with about 5 events per night cycled over 4 weeks.
I strained my hamstring both 2 and 4 weeks ago running the 100m.
The 100m was on again tonight and I was going to take it easy, but it's always difficult to hold back if nothing feels wrong.
Got a 12.13s in the 100m which is a PB beating my 12.21 from 2 years ago.
Standing start too so I really want to break 12 flat eventually.
Then I ran the 400m for the first time ever, having only trained up to 200m in practice.
As expected, I died in the home straight with 50m to go, definitely not fit.
Time was about what I was hoping for at 54.67s.
I should be able to knock that down to at least 52s with more endurance work.
I turned 44 one week ago.

After 5 weeks I figure I can say I'm back in the club:D
After 24 years absence from a gym

The other half joined up to a gym 8 week fitness challenge, lost a heap of weight, got fit and also won the challenge ;)
So with her persistent "encouraging" served with a large slice of guilt I signed up

The years of being comfortable in our lives had taken a toll, add in the various excuses to drink every day I was 48, 5"11 and 94.2kg :( (but hiding it well)

After 5 weeks attending 5 times a week and I got back to 86kg

It has been hard on the body, particularly the legs, am keeping one day a week aside for socialising and still eat most everything I want to :p
Also enjoying the social aspect of it :)

HIT style training at a fruit theory gym (for those that know it ;))

    Hi @el caballo

    So, almost 5 years later......
If you're still around, I finally cracked 12 flat FAT, it's been a long road and the challenge has been testing me the whole time, but I didn't quit.
This evening in a club race I ran 11.99s with zero wind which is even better considering my 2nd best time was a 12.08 with tail wind.
Better things are coming as I only remodelled my sprinting mechanics a couple of weeks ago and the improvements were almost instant.

I've been training for about 18 months now. I hate it, but I do it because I must. I see an exercise phys every few months to work out and learn new routine, which I do at home and to make sure I exercise safely due to a disc bulge.

Setting up a simple home gym isn't that expensive and gives me more flexibility with doing workout and being a dad to young children. Weight bench with rack, barbell, 6*dumbbell handles, 70kg of free weights, stretching mat, swiss ball.

    52yo, 169cm, 86kg, probably want to get to 76.
At the start of 2019 I was 95kg, got to 88, but stalled there for 7 months. I had definitely put on muscle, but I wasn't losing that much fat. Recently I changed things slightly and started losing again, 2kg in 3 weeks, not bad!

    My current routine:
Sun: Endurance weights workout, lower weights, higher reps.
    Tues: Strength weights workout
Thurs: 30m on exercise bike (this used to be another weights workout)
Sat: 2 hours martial arts, currently orange belt

The other things I change recently...
    • better sleep, I no longer take a tablet to bed, it was just far to tempting to lie in bed and read crap and lose sleep
    • better pre workout nutrition. I used to get up, hydrate and then work out. Now I have some milk and yogurt and find I have more energy during and after the workout
    • better post workout nutrition, I changed the meal immediately after a workout/ride to a smoothie with a little extra protein
    • focused on eating better snacks, more yogurt/nuts/fruit, less yummy biscuits

Good to see you've been at it for 18 months, the habit must have definitely set in by now and the weight loss is a huge benefit.

What is it that you hate about training?
    Anything specific?

No, Uni is definitely not for me, I tried though, it was one of the most difficult challenges I've done.
I'll be racing a 60m & 200m at State Masters this weekend so hope to hit some more PB's.

Ahh that is disappointing to read, given the effort you had expended. All the best with the athletics!

Effort. I'm a couch potato mostly. I like gardening and karate, but that's about it in terms of physical work.

Mind you I spent 3 days in Disneyland last year and we walked about 30k. So if I must do things, I do it! I trained my kids for 4 months before we went to ensure we got maximum benefit. I was most impressed with my 5y1m girl walking all that.

I do it for my kids. I'm an older dad, I had my first child at 44 and want to be around for them.

If I could take a pill to get the same workout I would. I understand that some people get a kick from the endorphins when they work out, not me.
