Has anyone looked at Hendra as an area to invest in? I came across it on realestate.com the other day and see its close to Ascot but seems a lot lower price point?
yes, well positioned area close to downtown. Don't know, but id imagine lots of airport noise being so close to the airport? traditionally light industrial. Needs some gentrification, but that will almost certainly happen over time. Its huge advantage is the airport and CDB, but that also makes it very attractive for light industrial eg transportation/wharehouse companies. As land becomes more expensive, these companies will seek to move further out as they are land/space dependant. Id suspect the process has already stated of it getting more expensive, but the rest of brisbanae established residential suburbs will probably be more desirable for the majority of punters- especially for PPOR..id consider it for IP. And watch out for the Hendra virus... only kidding. Henipavirus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I wonder why that is? Has it had a fair run up already perhaps? i will go and have a drive around when I'm in australia next. not my suburb of focus but more curious than anything else
No joke i think that actually has something to do with the lower price. When I was looking I immeditately scratched off Hendra and Gaythorne because of the names So that is one less buyer right there. Suppose it can't be as bad as living on Bumstead road in Logan.
Yeah... I keep thinking virus when I see the thread title. I am told it is where the horse virus first turned up and its dangerous to humans. (Might need to wikipedia it). Edit: yeah... The Hendra virus is named after this suburb, as it was the first place where the virus was detected, in September 1994 Other Brisbane place names that sound weird at first to me are Lota, Runcorn. And I was seriously looking at buying a house in Mortdale in Sydney a few years ago to be the PPOR... but then I googled it and it unfortunately basically translates to Valley of Dead or Death...
A new craft beer joint just opened in Hendra. This to me is a good sign. Otherwise, for me it's too flat, too close to motorway, to industrial, and to many horses walking down the street at 4am.
As long as you don't have a horse: Suburb has to fight for its good name Edit: too slow, beaten by @JDP1
I think its unfortunate for yhe suburb. .. But over time, the stigma caused by name and association will decrease. Racecourse suburbs have done ok in yhe past..
Was there not long ago. Patted the horses and spoke to an old dude there who claims he knew the Gibb brothers (Bee Gees). Reckons the BGs lived on some island nearby and lived in near poverty around 1960. They used to ride horses and carry BB guns. In Redcliffe there is street arcade dedicated to the BGs.
They lived in Redcliffe area, the house they lived in still there......forgot to take some photos when there last....
Hendra has experienced 7.6% growth in 2015 and located 10 km from CBD... ripple effect starting to happen for professionals buying there who are out of the Clay field affordability range as an example...gentrification and many splitter blocks happening...yield not high for rentals but growth will happen
Hi Munga Indeed we do - homes are rented within a week of proactive marketing if presented well and priced at market value.
