A bit late to this but I went with Emma Bragg from Tetlow Legal. I found her good to deal with and responsive to my ad hoc n00b questions about the process.

An update about my first experience with Conveyance service
    (Shane Angove - http://www.absoluteconveyancing.net.au/contact/)

A very impressive first impression, Shane Angove reviewed the contract and walked me thru it very patiently with attention to details,
I was not successful in auction though :(, But I will use his service for all my future purchases thanks for the reco Jamie.

    My pleasure.

Sorry to hear about the auction though :-( Best of luck with the next one.

    Cheers

I had a really bad experience with a conveyancer in ACT this year. She almost never returned phone calls or e-mails. It wasn't just me. My bank manager and the REA had the same problem dealing with her. 0/10 for communication (utmost frustration). She would just 'do her job' and did not have any follow up/safety nets to make sure that things don't fall through the cracks. 0/10 for customer service/satisfaction. Not sure if this is normal for ACT but I had a completely different experience in NSW.

I don't think it's the firm that she worked for as it is a fairly large well-known firm in Canberra. Mind you, she just moved to another firm earlier this year. She seemed to be firm-hoping every 2-3 years. Hard to catch but I would be cautious of her.

    Nah - not normal.

I've had plenty of dealings with local conveyancers over the years and rarely have I had issues like you've described.

Sounds like you landed a bad egg - sorry to hear.

    Cheers

    Jamie

I used Karen from KJB Law. Very thorough and Jo, one of the principals also gave me a a lot of time when I was looking to do some vendor financing a few years ago.

I thought I would rehash this thread rather than start a new one. I need to find a solicitor for first thing Tuesday morning down in the Tuggeranong area. The clock starts ticking then..

    Regards
    Steve

I think just call around the suggestions here on Tuesday morning and ask if they can fit you in. Others may give further suggestions if they've purchased recently in ACT.

I used Netlegal four years ago, no concerns with them.

Keep us updated how you go and how you found working with your chosen conveyancer.

    All the best with it.
