Just ordered a Tesla Model 3... not into cars at all but really liked the car and what it means for the future of transportations.

My car will arrive in January!

Any other Tesla owners/fans on this forum?

Tesla fan here, not an owner (yet!)
Love the model 3, did you order the all wheel drive version?
I've seen quite a few model 3's on the road now and they look great
I believe @chylld recently acquired one?

I ordered the SR+ which is rear wheels only. I couldn't justify an extra $22k for the upgrade, also still undecided on FSD option.

A lot of M3s surely in Sydney as well, apparently it's now among top 5 best selling cars in Australia within 6 months of launch despite supply shortages.

Do you plan to soon pull the trigger?

Don't know that I'd use the abbreviation, M3. Model 3 isn't an M3. That's an entirely different beast

I am too old for the sedan, spine bones and busted knee hurts getting in and out of sedan.

I too was considering if it was worth the extra $$ to go for the AWD, I don't know if I could justify it either.
I'm looking to get one around mid next year :)

I am an electric car fan but they don’t suit my lifestyle.
I ordered a top of the line Tesla S, Raven in May. 4 months later was the first day one was available for a test drive. So we went and test drove the new Tesla and cancelled the order.
In real world you only get a maximum of 400 km travel from 90% full. It costs $43 to fill at a non Tesla charger. The seats are not supportive and made out of a synthetic plastic that makes your back stick to the seat. It is called Vegan Leather. The car is jerky and gave me car sickness as a passenger. It has a terrible viewing system for seeing objects near the car. It is rather primitive compared to the best luxury car I have ever driven. A 2018 Volvo S90. Sorry Tesla, you may appeal to tech heads, but the quality of your accommodation and dated camera system are below that of $60k cars. Definitely not worth three times that amount. Worst of all no spare, no room for a spare and normal tyres not run flats. The staff are taught to answer questions in the Scott Morrison, Elon Musk manner of ignore the substance and sell the smoke way. For a car that weighs 2500kg, the absence of anywhere to keep a spare is unaustralian. When questioned about the short range, they said it was based on US conditions. When asked why the cars were not fitted with run flats, they replied “to keep the price down”. Every car comes with an NRMA membership so that the car is towed to the nearest garage so a spare can be ordered if you puncture a tyre beyond repair.
Rather than perforate the plastic seats for comfort and airflow they have gone for appearance over substance. This was to be the only 4 door in our garage as we have many 2 doors, but I was concerned that if my wife got a flat on her regular visit to Batemans Bay then she would be stranded.
The performance is attractive but it is a party trick (like many other features) in that it cannot be repeated until the car is back to 100% charged again. It’s performance varies based on the amount of charge in the battery.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the Tesla from a car enthusiasts point of view. I am slowly warming up to the idea of a tesla as everyone that I speak to that owns one raves on about it being the best car they have owned. But your review based on your experience has got me thinking maybe the hype is masking some of the faults of these cars.

That would be enough right here for me to cancel my order as well. Vegan Leather. Seriously. o_O

Everyone of the people I spoke to loved their car, while they owned it, when they sold it they couldn’t believe the loss of value. About 40% of value in 24-30 months. They complained about the poor quality finish and the lack of after sales care.

    1. Vegan leather ... FFS.
    2. As long as we burn coal to produce electricity ... it’s kind of pointless in my mind, may as well burn petrol.
    3. They just don’t have the satisfying sound of a V8.
    4. In fact as they have no sound at all, it’s kind of dangerous. I never heard the vegan who reversed out at me without looking as I walked through a car park recently.

Now now, lets's not turn this into a climate change argument - or an 'only vegans drive tesla's' argument.
I love burning fossil fuels as much as the next car enthusiast (and you obviously can't beat the sound while doing so) but some of the main stats that have me interested in electric cars are
    Instant acceleration
    Low centre of gravity
    Low maintenance
If I had the money a Porsche Taycan would be my pick but my budget is nowhere near that.
Concerning that the Tesla's don't come with a spare, I assumed (like an ass) that they had run flats to compensate for that fact.

Interestingly Tesla owners are the most satisfied new car customers, apparently
Tesla owners are more satisfied than any other auto brand's, according to Consumer Reports

They are better for the environment no matter where the electricity comes from.
They are surprisingly noisy at road speeds. My wife complained that the tyre noise was louder than all the sound my Porsche emit’s at the same speed. Despite my wife being 5ft 7in she couldn’t find a comfortable position that gave her good rear vision, as the rear headrests are in a fixed position and blocked her rear view.
I am interested in the environment but I’m much more interested in stopping the flow of money to the Middle East In petrodollars. Australia imports 90% of its oil products. The US imports only 10%. If you love gadgets over workmanship it’s definitely the car for you. I would have one, but as I own quite a few cars, I probably would never get around to driving it. My wife only has 3 cars but a 4th at $172k is a waste on her.(IMHO)

Yes, In much the same way that Scientoligists would be the least scathing on their own religion. If you badmouth a Tesla on a Tesla Forum, you are excommunicated. I swear they are a cult, until they sell theirs.

A mate took me for a ride in his model 3 and I was much more impressed than I thought I would be. For a $70k car similar in quality to a base model BMW or Mercedes I thought. When it goes it goes too, and not even the performance version.

Have to think about the tco, maintenance costs should be much lower..and in years time you're not going to get leaking oil from gaskets, leaking radiators, weeping steering racks, crunching gear boxes, dodgy clutches,, cracked plastic ducts, and leaking coolant hoses tucked way under the engine. All the things that **** you off in an old car.

I'll be buying an electric car as soon as I am able to..

Definitely an element of that with Tesla fans
Will be interesting to see how good the roadster is, some big claims regarding acceleration, top speed and range, tempting.

If the exchange rate was much closer to parity they would become far more affordable.

I would have regretted pre ordering one only to find it is now going to cost considerably more by delivery due to the exchange rate change, but it would have still worked out cheaper than walking in off the street today.

I have developed a liking for the Jaguar I-Pace
Looks more like a car, cheaper and possibly faster than the Tesla equivalent
