I know some Banks , actually only one , the Arab Bank that takes Taxi Plates as Security even though they dropped it down to 60% of the plate value.
Commbank and other major Banks have stopped.

A Sydney Taxi plate is currently worth 310 to 330k
A NSW Central Coast Taxi plate is worth 520k-550k
    Cairns Taxi plate 700k

More than one million Australians are now using Uber — the popular ride-sharing app that is on track to become one of the country’s biggest employers, with more than 20,000 drivers by the year’s end — ahead of household names such as Macquarie Bank, Lend Lease and Flight Centre.

The way Uber is growing in Australia, soon it would be difficult for politicians (on taxi Industry payroll) to continue to oppose it.

If Governments want to be relevant they should open the taxi/ride-sharing permits to any one who want at a minimal fee and a on going yearly charge something like land tax.
