An old Druitt method is to find a nest, pour fuel down it and set it alight. Not sure if it's 100% effective but sure as hell is fun.

Depends what type/size they are but if very small ones that seem to find any small access to the kitchen, dragging sand out of pavers etc, this stuff slows them down for me, contains bifenthrin, can also help with snails, slaters, termites, millipedes etc - https://www.bunnings.com.au/richgro-5kg-ant-killa_p2961738

Its a sand type size, not granular, picture is magnified.
You'll likely never get rid of them completely but it definitely slowed them down.
There's a smaller shaker container but I buy the 5kg for price, also use it at my rentals.
At times I've also had to spray the kitchen window sill with surface spray, their full-on around our way.

Check what they are doing, heaps of black ants may indicate they have found termites nearby.
