Right behind you Xenia...owning your own business definately means huge hours but also huge rewards...not relying on an employer anymore...the only way to be redundant now is to become irrelevant

It's the sitting in a pod having to be visible in one space locked in for 8 hours a day that was soul destroying for me ...I recall thinking, Jesus, two degrees and a Masters degree and I get this?...when working in senior mgt surrounded by narcissistic power thirsty peers...just did not work for me anymore...

I was bit late at 34, decided to leave the plush office and went into partnership with a friend in a very old building in Sydney CBD. It's liberating in many ways...no ties unless in meetings (oh yes, no useless and meaningless meetings...)

Congrats - exciting times ahead :)

Just left work too, 30yo. I thought leaving corporate would be good, 3 months out it's even better than I thought.

Find something you are passionate about and the 5x income will take care of itself.

    Cheers,
    Michael

When you say 'went into partnership in an old building' do you mean you bought the building and LOR Or you work within the building in some kind of business?

Congratulations–awesome to see you making the move.

I too threw the towel in recently, also age 30 (seems the magic number). It's absolutely liberating, and empowering.

All the best living the rest of your life on your terms. :)

This supposed to be a property forum. why so many people quit, retired, throw in the towel :p

I just celebrated my 15yrs with the same company last week sloshing my usual 8 hr day and loving it.

I guess I won't be that popular, so I quit........

Maybe so many of us quit the 9-5 work for the man, because we have a different mindset. We know that there is so much more value of our time than a set salary.
I could be doing admin for a boss and earning $25-40 per hour 38 hrs a week (and probably hating it,) or doing the admin for our own business 15-20hours a week for a bucket load more and loving it.
I get to do what I want, when I want. Hubby reminds me OFTEN that he is sooooo glad I pushed him out of work and started up for himself.

My husband recently went out on his own and after a couple of weeks he said something along the lines of "this is awesome, even though I'm working it feels like I'm on holidays". He put in a 15 hour day today, should ask him if he still feels the same!

what did he say after his 15hr day.? My husband is the same. It is silly season for us...long hard days where everybody needs stuff yesterday, but he still loves it

Not a great deal - he was too buggered! But he's still in honeymoon mode!
