    Basically, yes. Younger people have time on their side, we didn't. And it was only in hindsight that we discovered our timing has been good. In reality, it was probably more good luck than good judgment. We thought we were simply sitting out a period of instability.

    True, no one can pick it exactly, but both the '87 crash and the GFC were preceded by 4-5 qtrs. of growth at 10%/qtr. Pretty good sign that things are about to go pear-shaped..

    Dog and pony show.

    Now here is the real reason he closed the fund ;

    Altair boss Philip Parker linked to dispute over mother's shares

    How well do you think Altair would go (viz outflows) once this got out...lol

    Right at the end of that article is another rather telling bit of information:

    Separately, Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents show that Altair Assets director John Milne Hall resigned from the board April 7, 2017. Mr Hall submitted his resignation to Mr Parker, where he told Mr Parker that his reason for resigning was a lack of information.

    "The principal reason for my resignation is that for the past three or more years I have not been provided with sufficient information in relation to the conduct of the business of Altair Assets Ltd to discharge my duty as a non-executive director to monitor the conduct of the company's business and to intervene where appropriate."

    Obviously the article only gives a limited view, but it doesn't make much sense to me... if there is a bubble and impending crash, he's better off holding cash so he can buy cheap stocks when the crash comes.

    Still, I don't know what house prices have got to do with many businesses that are listed on the ASX. Everyone will still consume data on their phones and buy food, etc.
