    Hello all you horse people

Just wondering, how much should I be getting rent to agist 40 acres for horses? Fences in ok condition, shade and dam on site. In Moruya.

    Appreciate your thoughts

Have you had a Bo Peep on leasing websites to see if there are any similar set-ups on the market?

That is a very broad question! I have horses and have paid anywhere from $300 a week agistment in Sydney to $30 a week in the country!

Most will depend on facilities - is it fully fenced? What type of fencing (barbed wire vs post & rail)? Does it having riding facilities e.g. arena, stables etc.

If it's just a paddock you'd probably be hard pushed getting more than $20-$30 a week per horse being agisted there. Max $100 total unless they have a LOT of horses.

thanks all for the response. I actually have access to 60 acres and it's barbed wire fencing. I am getting $180 per week for about 18 horses. They are all owned by the one person... Just wondering if it was too low as I had about 2389572389759387 calls when I first put on the ad.

I didn't want to 'foal' around too much and would rather the one tenant than 10 separate tenants...

I don't do any agistment but I do business with horse people all the time. Bon_E is about right with her costings. We make hay and sell it to the horse market and let me tell you, don't get between a woman and her horse!

    Why take horses anyway?
If the pastures and fences are in good condition they soon won't be if you stock it with a bunch of horses.
Could the property be leased for some other commercial purpose?

    Nuclear waste dump?

    Toxic waste facilities?

Plenty of scope for a tyre dump.

Out of that list I should imagine the nuclear waste dump would be the most profitable. Worth looking into?

My partner has two horses, one miniature pony, and two dogs. I sit somewhere around 6th on her priority list.

I think you're onto a good deal at $180 a week! If your current agistee is paying on time and looking after the horses then I'd leave it as is just with the one person. The more people you take on, the more chance you have of someone being a nightmare (and there are a fair few of those in the horsie world!!)

By the way it might be worth getting them to sign some sort of a contract citing what you can do if they stop paying/if they stop looking after the horses properly. Last thing you'd want is for her to dump them there, stop paying agistment then you have to deal with 18 horses
