I'm coming at this topic from the opposite perspective.

Hubby and I are what the typical Australian investor would consider to be Losers. We are low income, low education, low-prestige job nobodies from nobody families. We earn way below the average Oz incomes.

But when we realised that we are wealthier than the vast majority of this Planet's inhabitants, it put a whole new meaning on things. We are not Losers after all. We have a lovely home that is warm in Winter and dry during the Summer storms. We produced two university educated kids (tick) who are decent human beings. They lease their own home and always pay their rent on time. They keep it clean, so they must be decent human beings. We did something right.

Success is more than a bank statement

Epiphany? Maybe if I had a spare 5 mil lying around... Hehe

But yes I get where you're coming from. Poor people are often happier than rich.

Agree. Needs to have a 1 with many zero's behind it :p

Jokes aside, I don't believe there is anything great in poverty and would choose to have lots of money over less any day.

I am however very grateful for what I have and don't take it for granted and believe its an obligation to help others much less fortunate than myself via charities.

You confuse me. Some of your post make me feel you have a pumping steel engine for a heart, others make me feel you are a cuddly bighearted unicorn :D

Let me tell you something. There is no nobility in poverty. I’ve been a rich man, and I’ve been poor man. And I choose rich every @#^€~ time. Cause, At least as a rich man, when I have to face my problems, I show up in the back of a limo wearing a $2000 suit …and $40,000 gold @&$?’ watch!

Sorry I don’t necessairly believe this but it’s such a great scene!

many weeks ago, a widow came to see me for help. As it turned out, her husband 40 yr passed away in his sleep. Fit. Educated. Driven. Investments, share markets, joint venture and in a higly stressful job environment. 3 kids. a list of properties, highly geared and widow can't refinance. Husband didnt spend much time with family. the pursuit of wealth.

That is absolute rubbish.....that you are nobodies........the way you write and contribute on this forum (albeit I don't know you) I think otherwise.:D I think you are far more wiser and wealthy than most on this forum. You have wisdom and self awareness most on this forum don't.

I agree 100% agree that material wealth is only part of equation....but is something you can't take with you. I think you will be retired within 3 years as the Brissie markets takes off....;)

Money buys you options. If you choose wisely, those options buy you happiness.

Hey Angel, I've got no idea why you think people would view you as losers. I've met you guys and it never crossed my mind. Your home is really nice, in a lovely area. I think you've been telling yourself that story. :)

Thank you for the comments @ellejay and @sash.

Sorry, I mean that in the eyes of the general public we would be considered Losers due to the way so many people judge others based on their professions and their incomes and the cars they drive or the houses they live in. Our own families used to put us down. But these days we know so much better, hence my comments intending to show that wealth is a very idealised thing.
    :)

Never met you. But the way you share the information tells me you, at least, are a very smart person. That coupled with you healthy sarcasm tells me you went through a lot without playing victim. All domed together, I mentioned this before, you are pretty awesome.

    Now can we marry?:D:D

I spent 6 months in SE Asia and honestly it made me appreciate western society. I appreciate my job, my cars , the fact i can book holidays and most importantly my family are healthy. But if anything was to happen the health care system is very good.

I agree, once a journalist on the radio made a great comment about people who win or receive a lot of money. She said, "It makes a bigger person you are - so if you were giving and good, you will give more and be better, if you were bad, you will be worse, if you were corrupt you will be more corrupt, etc...".
What a wonderful perception, more money makes us all 'more/larger the person we already are'!
