FYI - Ford vehicle manufacturing was actually Broadmeadows in Melb. Geelong was engine plant only.

BHP is looking to fill 120 new jobs in its growing Olympic Dam team

Jobs will be on offer at the Olympic Dam site near Roxby Downs, as well as at the company’s offices in the Adelaide CBD.

The recruitment drive follows the company’s announcement earlier this year that it would spend $600 million at its Olympic Dam operations this financial year — the most significant outlay the company has ever made in South Australia.

Olympic Dam asset president Jacqui McGill said a wide variety of job opportunities were on offer, including project managers, project analysts, truck drivers, jumbo operators and loader drivers.

“We have a great future, we have sustainable growth plans and we are investing right here in South Australia to make the Olympic Dam operation modern and technologically advanced,” she said

“We’ve had some great success recruiting people from outside mining and appealing to people with diverse experience and background.”

“It is a really exciting time to be part of the industry, and part of Olympic Dam, and we want people from truck drivers to technology professionals to engineers, and everything in between to join us.”

BHP has a workforce of around 3,500 in South Australia based in Roxby Downs and at its CBD offices.

25,000 new jobs: What the defence boom means for SA

“I don’t think that the South Australian public, or the business community or the SA government has yet grasped the transformative potential of this defence industry investment,” said Mr Pyne, also the Sturt MP."

This likely would trigger an SA population increase of between 30,000 and 50,000.

"Adelaide’s northwestern and western suburbs would be the biggest beneficiaries, with strong demand for schools and housing in areas including Largs Bay, Semaphore and Mawson Lakes."

Saw a thing in today's newspaper (don't read it often, but there was one already on the table where i had lunch) that the new buyer of the Holden site (122 hectares or something huge like that?) planned to turn it into an innovation / technology park. Sounded great.

Welder shortage threatens Australian jobs on ships and submarines

“Unless we act now, we’re looking at importing up to 500 welders from overseas which would be unforgivable. We’ve got Australians who can take these jobs and do a first-class job,”

They relocated to Mawson lakes a couple of years ago, they set the standard for Gold detectors. They have also developed an underground mine tracking system, that is also world class.

The battery is partitioned into two sections. Roughly 70% is designed for FCAS (Frequency Control Ancillary Service) and only 30% for trading (storage).

The FCAS part has paid for itself already.

Where did you read that says the 70% FCAS has paid for itself already?
