Unfortunately doesn't break it down by suburb (only service area).

Not sure why crime even came up in this article when these are much nicer areas than some of the others we've profiled

The further south you go the nicer the beaches get

What beaches do you like down south? I've generally only gone to Brighton, Henley or Semaphore - Glenelg is a pain for parking IMHO.

I would have to agree, some of the best beaches are located south. Christies Beach, Port Noarlunga/Southport, Moana and Aldinga Beach just to name a few. No issues with parking and plenty of room to spread out on a 40 degree day when everyone flocks to the beach.

I dunno about being able to spread out - have you been to Aldinga on a hot day? Everyman and his dog is there. Its one of the only beaches you can drive on, so the beach becomes a great big carpark with gazebos and chairs set up next to them like a camping spot. Its awesome. Never seen anything like it.

Our property backs on to south rd just before OTR Aldinga, Australia day just gone traffic was backed up past our place for people trying to get onto all the beaches, it was insane.

Port noarlunga definitely has its moments,

but pt.willunga and maslins beach (just ignore the nudists) would have to be up there, a bit out of the realm of this thread however. I live down this way so I may be a bit bias however

Pt noarlunga is one of my favourite spots. Has a sleepy beachside town feel about it. We often go for breakfast there on a weekend. It backs on to Christies beach but I much prefer it. If I was buying though Id look at the beach end rather than the collonades end and not the river rd area.

Newport Quays... just don't buy there haha. North Haven and West Lakes definitely

Too right, PITA. The only negatives for the beaches north of Semaphore (but not Semaphore) is all the seagrass that builds up, especially after storms. Can get to a metre high, my Golden Retriever disappeared into it one day and had to porpoise his way out. He had almost as much fun as I did I think

    Hi

I could not locate Newport Quays when I entered it into realestate.com.au

Could the area be known as something else?

    Regards,

    alicudi

On there it'll be under New Port (2 words) as Newport quays was a newer development there.

    Hi

I am from Victoria but have just been checking out Newport Quays, South Australia on realestate.com.au for the past 15 minutes.

May I ask why do you recommend that nobody buy in the area?

    Regards,

    alicudi

    Hi

Appreciate your response. I am going to investigate this area a little more over the next week, to have an apartment with water views and a mooring close by for a boat appeals to me and my lifestyle.

Do you think that the prices are going to have a massive drop from what they are now?,if so I can truly see myself leaving Melbourne and potentially shifting to New Port Quays in South Australia.

    Regards,

    alicudi

For New Port (sorry, I forgot about the naming debacle where they brilliantly selected the worst option possible, instead of choosing the existing suburbs as promised or sticking with Newport Quays), go and visit. The apartments are nice, but a bunch of people lost money buying off the plan and because not many renters were available and there's still a lot more development to be sorted once they get a move on. If you're buying for the very long term it may be a good move, I wouldn't know. The problems as I see it:
    - One entry/exit at the moment (though it has very convenient access to the trains)
    - Small land
    - Not a lot of employment convenient

Like I said, if you've the long term in mind, it may be worth a throw of the dice, especially if you get a berth, but it's a bit of a shambles at the moment and I feel the money could be better used elsewhere.

Better off with north haven IMO.
New Port is a ghost town - they built lots of dwellings expecting people would come and they didn't.
