    Hi all

So I'm aware there's a guideline that you can't build beyond the front of the 'building line' so I wanted to see if there was a way to at least put up some kind of temporary shelter for cars in my driveway or any way way around the building line requirement.

    Thanks

Shade sail. Or an open-sided carport might be acceptable. You need to ask Council.

I spoke to our local council development officer about an open-sided carport (I think he works in the compliance department) and in his words "you have 0% chance of getting this approved" since it would have to be considerably in front of our building line.

Shade Sails also seem to have a similar issue with building lines but I am waiting to get a call back with the town planner about that.

    Thanks!

Sounds like Council has answered your question.
Does the property already have a garage?
Car cover is a cheap option

Yeah I'm thinking the car cover is probably the only option. I just wanted to chuck something temporary ontop of the car (we have a porch hanging on top so i thought I could just hang something over) but it seems like that would even be knocked back.

We do have a garage but it barely fits a car and we use it mainly for some storage since our current car is kind of big.

Many council have a dim view on any temporary structure for a car.

An alternative could be getting a shed for the backyard to store stuff in so you can park your car back in the garage?
