    Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for a good accountant for my wife and I.
Preferably South-West or Western Sydney but not essential.
Nothing too difficult, couple of IPs.
My main priority is excellent communication and thorough knowledge of IPs.

I've been using the same guy for years, and while he is knowledgeable, his written communication is woeful, his advice is sometimes hard to grasp, and he often changes his mind.
Every year I say I'm going to find someone better.

So yeh, can anyone recommend a skilled accountant who will communicate professionally, clearly and in a timely manner?

A +1 for Paul. Gives great advice.

Even though based in Thornleigh ( and you're in the West @S44 ) it's worth the effort to go and see him and run through your situation.

After that communication by e-mail/phone is suitable for most matters.

An accountant is not like a hairdresser - no need to meet them to get serviced.

Nick Moustacas from Strategic Wealth. A number of forum members go to Nick. Based in Hurstville. No need to meet in person.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Yes agreed you don't NEED to see an accountant physically, hence why I said communication is my main concern.

But just as a personal preference, I prefer to drop off documents rather than scanning/emailing or posting.
Aside from that, it's always nice to have face-to-face interaction with someone who you're potentially going to use for years to come.

What documents are there to drop off?

I don't think many accountants accept piles of documents anymore. If they do it will cost you more.

Modern technology should also safeguard your information and identity. We provide a client portal that allows all documents that are relevant to be uploaded - We dont even need to file them. Our checklist approach is improving all the time and certainly helps to standardise so things dont get missed etc. This keeps YOUR cost down. The documents are logged and them they ARE on file and trigger a job to be created and tracked. All recorded and logged as events I cant even change. You can access YOUR records 24/7/365 and we upload things like notices in real time. No waiting for mail or identity risks.

We can also upload a tax return and you can sign it with a few clicks of a button anywhere is the world. No complex PDF signatures. No printer, No scanner. Can even be signed with a smartphone, tablet etc - Only thing it needs is a browser. It messages me. It saves the file (locked) and you can access it anytime for a copy. You can even add a message if you need to.

I will agree with Terry - Any accountant without these systems is wasting time. I also have many clients who drop off records etc. Its not as cost efficient.
