How does everyone feel about the ministry of arts being amalgamated into a new super-ministry?

It could all work the same as before...or it might not.

How much do we value the arts and what is the arts' value?

Would be interested to hear some thought on this.

Utterly appalling decision. As a performer and keen arts consumer this degrades and devalues arts and culture. And it's a big sector in the Australian economy.

Terrible decision and a captains call because there was not report that even suggested from what is being reported "The arts are essential to any complete national life. The State owes it to itself to sustain and encourage them….Ill fares the race which fails to salute the arts with the reverence and delight which are their due." WC.

The arts is only one part of what's happened under the reshuffle. What is potentially worse (according to one viewpoint I read) is that the government is taking control of departments away from the public service and more under direct control - enabling a much greater degree of secrecy and a downgrading of accountability.

First step to an autocracy ... as for downgrading ... they have also removed massive amounts of funding from domestic violence refuges
