I'm sure they'll work something out.
    They did it with water.

I think they are referred to as Dual Key? Seeing as they use a common front door and the rear premises is a bed sit at best. :p

Currently live in a 160sqm house on a 297sqm block 55sqm backyard we built, actually don't mind it. No gardens to look after, nice comfortable brand new house. Only short term for us Not my kinda thing really though, have too many toys currently on the search for a 10+acre prop.

People must like it though they sell like hotcakes

Everyone wants their piece of Australia. The great Australian dream. We can poke fun but I would rather live in one of these estates than an apartment complex.

people like crystal meth and/or living week to week too, doesn't mean it's a good idea long term...

can kinda sorta understand it short term for some though, a little bit. maybe perhaps.

If the great australian dream is living far away from amenities and/or work and in an often badly designed house in a soulless suburb then I'm happy to throw that dream in the bin.

I spend 5 mins going to work and live in an apartment.

Good comment and that is the sad reality, the dream which was once a solidly built home on a quarter acre block a 10 minute drive to everything has been distorted down to this. Makes you wonder where "the dream" will be in another generation or two...

Yes, are good for those with no interests, no tools, etc etc

Also I think good for many tenants, low maintenance etc

PS 10 acre, gee, that is a lot of toys ! And much more to do.

I've got a quarter acre block, 10 minutes to everything. :D

I calculated that my 3 car garage is 72sqm. That's bigger than your standard granny flat! I'd rather not fill it up with crap but thats lots of space for toys....

I'm planning to NEVER sell it. It stayed in the original family for 80 years, and I would like to do the same. But if someone came up to me and offered to buy it off me for $4mill or so in today's money...

These houses are the result of greedy councils letting greedy developers get away with it. There is no shortage of land in sw or nw Sydney. Have a look at estates in those areas from 10-15 years ago where the average block was around 500m2 and it is a world of difference. The majority of people out here would prefer a newer home but just about the only option is these mini blocks.

A much much better buy than these tiny blocks way out West or South West is a home on 780sqm in North Epping. And I happen to have one for sale. :) Great neighbours too.

PM me if interested. I offer a finders fee too. :)

is it also much much more expensive than a house on a cottage block way out west?

    Well, there is that.
Probably further than 5 minutes from your work too.

And developments are only getting smaller. 210- 280m2 with the same large 4-5 bedroom homes now sharing driveways. No mature trees anywhere.

Medium density in existing areas is a much better option. Because people have to live somewhere.

But the NIMBYs don't like it so it gets pushed to the suburbs.

That said 250sqm is pretty common on older areas so it's not like it's anything new. And more than enough room for a lot of people.

You mean apart from Glenrock reserve to the south, which is 100s of hectares of bushland, dixon park to the immediate north, then the park at bar beach then the huge expanse of King Edward Park?

1.28-1.4mill, compare that to my colleague's new build out at Jordan Springs, which costs 800k built on land of about 400sqm. Mine's better value.

I dont deny that yours might be better value (I'm not an expert on the Sydney market) but we're discussing predominantly cottage blocks here, likely to be in the say 600-750k range. even at 800k, comparing it to a 1.4m house is like asking someone looking for an affordable engagement ring to go to tiffanys.

I doubt the general house and land buyer out west in sydney with 700k to spend can actually double their budget

I wonder how a firetruck would get down some of these skinny streets without destroying everyone's cars?
