I was actually thinking 50/50 , oz and international . Still trying to absorb sooo much from pc and books its like info overload but im learning heaps . Enjoying it actually . Hopefully when some of my friends talk about stocks I will be able to join the conversation in the future and not just speak up when they discuss real estate :)

Out of curiosity, can I ask why 50:50 Aus:Intl?? Possibly closer to 66:33? I'm sure it will all sort through.

Thanks for starting another great discussion.

With what's starting to unfold ,particularly with the raw silent character of the truth it may be wise just to stay on the sidelines for now, because if we go into a bear market it always comes with adverse outcomes and human error..imho..

    Hi @Leo2413

Has the plan and the strategy evolved over the years

If so, what is its current format?

Yes its evolved as our equity grew and risk profiles changed over time. Started of with buy, reno and sell to buy reno and hold. Did a lot of that then progressed to small developments and more recently we've engaged in a few JVs at the same time.

Also before a few of the Chinese markets exploded we managed to invest in some units (partner is Chinese so it helps) as well as buy some commercial shops in Taiwan . Some very good timing that's for sure .

Partner has always wanted to have some exposure to the stock market and I was hesitant. But now we're in a position where it won't affect our asset base and business so I'm willing to diversify a small amount of capital. I've been interested in it too for sometime so it's not like I'm anti stocks . Just don't want something that requires many hours a week of work so i think lics/etfs and a small handful of individual stocks may be a good compromise .

Putting this small part aside, we mostly focus on residential developments and jvs. Partner also does some consulting as a side busines for high net worth clients wanting accounting/tax advice.

Looks like it will be another interesting day on the Australian markets 20%plus downturn is in the range now,and once it goes above that downward trend it does not take a genius to work out what happens next..

In my super I’m currently at 32% international, 60% Australia, 8% cash. Was at 18% cash before the Dow plunged.

Don’t forget the cashflow benefits you get from fully franked Australian dividends.

IBK is US Domiciled ETF. As long as you are aware of it. If you are interested in investing in Asia I would recommend VAE. It is Australian domiciled ETF from Vanguard and has management fee of 0.40% compared to management fee of IBK which is 0.70%. It has most Asian countries including China, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia etc.

Regarding LIC I guess you mean MLT and not MET (There is no stock with that symbol)

    Else looks good

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Oracle.

Haven't read the whole thread, but value investing is not too common or popular.

Funds that are successfully using this style of investing include:

    - Castlereagh Equiry
    - EGP Capital
    - Samuel Terry Asset Management

google the names for more information
