Brunswick is out of my list, I'll be looking in Malvern, Hawthorn or Richmond if I can find a quiet street there

Yeah I've noticed that, but there's still decent apartments that would be suitable for me in that price range. Cheers for the the heads up

Quiet and Richmond don't really go in the same sentence imo.

Malvern is essentially starting to get into suburbia, if you are prepared to go that far out maybe have a look into Port Melbourne, Middle Park and Elwood.

All of which are shorter drives into the CBD than Malvern, on the beach and 10-15 mins by light rail to CBD.

Just checked out the suburbs you mentioned, Elwood looks good to me it's affordable and close to everything. Port Melb and Middle Park are a bit pricey. Elwood is in perfect location I wouldn't go further out than Elwood, will definitely keep an eye out on what's on the market in Elwood once I'm ready to make offers on properties :) Would definitely prefer Elwood over Richmond!
