It's still the best city in the world but these lies are true for sure. Hilarious about airport noise. :p

My nominations, based purely on what I hear most often...

    #4: We're central to everything

#5: We paid $100k below what this place was really worth

On #4, I've heard people say this all over Sydney, from West Ryde, WPH, Castle Hill, Chatswood, Maroubra, Darlinghurst. Some are clearly more accurate than others... though I don't shoot even the obvious ones down - the delusion isn't harming anyone after all ;)

On #5, I'm a big believer in you make money not just when selling but also when buying. It's what smart investors should do. But, I've heard this many times and only on a few occasions do I agree...

I love Sydney!!!! But some parts are better/more convenient/nicer/more central than others. On a FHB budget you'll probably only be able to get 1 or the other if you're lucky... comfortable home space or location?

But once once you own a good slice of Sydney... its amazing. And the long term capital growth....

I think its quite nuts that a Sydney unit budget buys you a good house in Brisbane. But that's how it is... Screenshot_2018-05-14-22-28-12.png

I've heard the commute one from people in Melbourne too - living 30kms from the CBD but the drive only takes 20 minutes lol

It's all relative. If your cashed up in a nice home and area, financially free of stress then you'll most likely have created another reality for yourself in Sydney and absolutely love the place and what it has to offer. If your renting a room in a dingy area and doing the 8-8 rat race every day then youll be in a different reality again.

Funny article :) but then its not necessarily a lie. People actually believe what they say as its all relative...

again... they may very well be depending on how they have carved their life based on where they live. stuff they are into may not be your cup of tea.

I live central to everything too. Sydney and Melbourne in one direction, Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef in the other.

Agree with these observations. Over the years they are all becoming worse, with the additional population and not many policies solving these issues. Currently an older closer family member keeps us in Sydney (needs our help) but if we ever fully retired I sometimes wonder why not live somewhere else, especially when kids become independent too?

If you're using public transport the commute isn't what it used to be. In ye olde days you could read a book or the paper on the commute. Now you can post here, work, watch TV (stan, netflix etc), listen to music etc. An hour passes in no time when you're doing this.

Haven't caught public transport in 20 years, so I agree with you, it maybe different! I suppose you could even do work if you wanted to?

I have a friend who lives on the Gold Coast and works in Brisbane. She gets on the train and does an hours work before she gets to the office and another hour on her way home.
