The above was the opening post of this thread in June 2015. It is now fast forward 1.5 years

Sydney house increased 16.76% in 2016. I think it did similar in 2015, so half year we take 8%

If Sydney do another 8% from now to June 2017, we are 32% for 2 years from the post.

Can we do June 2017 to June 2018 another 18%?

Over my dead body.....I hear people saying with a passion :p

Well at least 90% of the so claimed expert got it wrong in 2016 per AFR.

How housing market forecasters get it horribly wrong in 2016

(if link doesn't work, google "How housing market forecasters get it horribly wrong in 2016"

I agree ....if it goes another 50%...be prepared to pick up some serious bargains on the downside....rates are the key...any other shocks could also affect the Sydney market.

Well it was fun while it lasted...the rippled is now heading out to other larger cities in the NSW including Wollonging, Central Coast, and Newcastle/Hunter where prices have moved quite a bit already...

any regret selling? I believe you sold 2 already?

I sold one in early 2016, thanking some Sydney doomsayer here... and it's gone up another 10% since...

pick the bottom stinks, pick the tops shucks....but even you missed out on bottom/top, you still make good gains.

if it goes up another 10% would be nice. down 20% good. there's enough profit left on the table.

Agree with the ripple effect from sydney. Pick up an ip in wollongong area mid 2015 and to date it's gone up around 40%.

a few people from work live in the gong and commute for hour/hour half daily each way and can't seem to promote their lifestyles enough

you could theoretically travel same distances out west with similar price points but wouldnt wake up to the beach 5 min away

How many did you have before you sold the last one? Tidy profits.

agree wholeheartedly! the govt will make you believe that every school is the same on paper as the curriculum taught is the same but its the intangibles which are the real differentiators, as Cliff mentioned the networks and connections your child will make growing up really helps them in their adult lives, not to mention the resources each school has available and the quality of teachers

This comes from personal experiences whereby I was fortunate to be in an environment where my peers wanted to learn and value education, in addition to the school placing heavy emphasis on extra-curricular activities such as sport and music

Now as a working adult I can see the subtle differences between upbringing amongst different school systems

missus and I have discussed the eventuality of sending kids to high school with selective school as first preference (education and cost), private schooling then public schooling

In saying so I think Sydney will see a shift to the Melbourne model whereby catchment areas of top public schools will see higher rates of growth compared with areas outside of these catchments

note - understand that it may not be possible due to personal circumstances to send kids to private schooling etc. however these are my observations

A heads up... Sydney's been like this for ages.... areas within good school catchments always attract a premium... just like an amenity such as a good train...

Not sure if that was to me or gockie . We've sold three .

Since we've sold those we were able to buy in Brisbane , Adelaide and Launceston . The amount we have invested there is more than what we had in the three we sold in Sydney .

The first two we sold in sydney has gone up further , but I expect that what we've bought interstate will go up more than what we've sold in sydney in the medium term .

Although I didn't know it at the time we sold , if we hadn't sold when we did , with the changes in serviceability we would have been able to buy about a third of what we actually did buy.

So I have no regrets in Sydney.
