    Can we have graphs?
    • new member per day (date on x axis), then
    • posts per day (date on x axis)
    • new thread per day (date on x axis)

    I'm kidding.
Send me the data and I'll post them for you

You don't know me very well - of course I have graphs :p

I split new registrations into a separate graph so we can see more detail.

June 18 was launch day, July 1 was when I sent out the email to all SS members about that site being archived.

We topped over 1,000 posts on our best day so far. Weekends are always a bit quieter.

Somersoft's best month ever was May 2015, where we did 14,490 posts for the month. We've already done 10,069 posts on PropertyChat so far this month (July 2015) up until midnight last night

I can see that Wednesday and Thursday seems to be the busiest... I wonder if that's because everyone is bored of their work by mid week :p

Thanks everyone - but I can't really take credit for it ... I've only made 360 or so of the 20,000 posts

I just built the site - it's the community who have taken that and ran with it!

    Great work @Sim!

Start relating the stats to suburb/location keywords and we'll have a PC leading indicator.

Simple approach might be a word cloud that filters out words that are not suburbs/locations.

Great to hear, Sim. I predicted that after a month or so that other forum would be a distant but very fond memory and that this one would take off.

Pretty awesome to see so much activity from both the experienced investors and newcomers.

I think activity is going to roar even higher in the next year..

I had someone ask me why Somersoft wasn't continued with advertising allowed to cover costs. I explained the reasons and their comment was that one reason it was such a great research tool was that it has older valuable posts but was always evolving and updated as changes happen.

I wonder how many times people will go back and search. I am sure I will because I know what I am searching for but I wonder if someone googling will notice it is no longer active and skip it?

    Actually I doubt it.

Looking at the analytics data, you can see the typical behaviour of people coming from search engine results - specifically based around the "bounce rate" figure.

Bounce rate is the rate at which visitors to the site look at a single page and then leave without interacting with any other pages. This means they "bounced" off your site and weren't "engaged" with it - typically they either found what they wanted (or didn't find what they wanted) and then left to go look at some other search results.

Bounce rates for most sites are typically around the 80% mark. For traffic coming from search engines, Somersoft's bounce rate in May 2015 was just under 55%, which is quite good - but still indicates that more than half the people visiting only ever viewed one page.

These people who bounce off the site typically don't care about the status of the site - all they want is their information and then they move on.

Yes, there will be some people who would be drawn to engage with the site after having found it from a search engine result - and some of those may be put off once they find out that the site is no longer active - but again, if they find the information they are seeking, they aren't likely to care that much.

That being said - the (perceived) quality of the information will degrade over time as it ages - I think it is inevitable that eventually the site will become an interesting footnote in the history of the internet, but for the next 5+ years I think there will still be a massive amount of value there for people seeking knowledge.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how the stats evolve over time now that there is no new content being generated for it.

I'm a classic example for you, Sim...found the Somersoft site through G this week - loved it, started exploring, disappointed to discover it was closing but found the link bringing me here where I became one of your Newbie stats! It looks really promising. Hope it goes well.
