    Getting mucked around by experts....
Submitted flood insurance claim for concrete heave on ground floor paving between stumps on a raised 90 year old Queenslander.
Claim was just denied as "no reinforcement steel mesh" used in the ground floor paving.
They cited a code - "CA2 - 1963 SAA code for concrete in buildings"
This refers to concrete building slabs and structural members, not hand laid paving....

Can any members recall any 1970's requirement for steel mesh in paving ground floor under a queenslander?
No cars, just foot traffic and storage.
Concrete was laid sometime in 1970 - 1973....50mm with sharp aggregate.

    Thanks in advance...:)

Is it poured concrete or paving? You mention hand laid then you say concrete was laid. Paving would be individual pavers laid on a bed of sand.

Probably just a blinding slab which would have been unreinforced, no requirement for reo if it's foot traffic only.

You can't put reo in a 50mm thick slab and achieve 30mm cover and 20mm to the exposed surface.

Once again the combined experience of PC members come to the fore....
The well ticketed "forensic structural engineer" assigned by the insurance company had no idea about a "blinding concrete layer".
I will approach the claim again and see what they have to say....;)
    Thanks again...

Welled passed the concrete's design life regardless of which code you look at. Not sure if this affects your claim.
