We went to see Mary Poppins Returns.

Like many people of my generation, we had very good memories of the original.

I'd rate this one about 6/10.

The music was good, the dance routines very well done. Emily Blunt did a very good job of Mary Poppins. And there were some nice cameos. (If there was a murder by balloon, somebody would have been on hand to solve it).

However, it really showed just how much Dick Van Dyke did for the original. The energy, enthusiasm and fun of the original movie is missing in the new version.

The musical production was good, but I didn't think that any of the songs were memorable in the same way as the 1964 version. But then, they might become memorable if repeated sufficiently.

    We didn't go with kids.

Took the nieces to see Mary Poppins and agree with you @geoffw - little long and tedious in parts and not as good as the original 6/10 The Grinch was better :p

Mary Queen of Scots: Margo Robbie was simply unrecognisable as Elizabeth  and liberties were taken with historical facts (but hey I guess it wouldn't be as entertaining otherwise!) but it was a good solid drama. Little long winded in the middle but academy award goes to costuming and makeup here :D 7/10

Hmmm....apart from that nothing new but by far the BEST movie I've watched for a long time in the last 6 mths was "First they Killed my father" about the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia. Beautifully filmed, based on a real family (from the viewpoint of a child) and heartbreakingly sad... do not miss it. 10/10

I read the book, but I didn't even see the movie being shown. But I see it's on Netflix, thanks for the reminder.

Wife took the kids and friends to see Mary Poppins she was sorely disappointed, even the kids (4 girls) queried the movie plot

Have you seen these movies you're quoting? Or is there a reason they may be good?

I appreciate the comment on Mary Poppins. But Robin Hood, for instance, got 5.3 on IMDB.

I'll let you know re: Robin Hood

Apparently the movie Peppermint and Jennifer Garner got a bad rap, I thought it was okay.

Didn't bother watching Holmes and Watson or the Happytime Murders

We went to see Glass. And gave it a 3/10.
For a movie with such potential it certainly left wanting.
Great acting by some stars, and Bruce Wilace was also in it (acting as well as he can I guess).

Overall pretty average. Don’t bother watching at the cinema.

We along and saw ""The Mule"" late last night ,pure Clint from start to finish ,and I think Al Pacino once said ..

If the movie you are watching does not take you inside the movie within the first few minutes walk out and get your money back..

    I really enjoyed The Mule.

On the Basis of Sex was entertaining. I suspect there was some drama added, but a good film.

I didn't enjoy Holmes and Watson.

What Men Want was a few cheap laughs.

Mary Poppins was well made, but the music wasn't as catchy as the original. Which reminds me, we did a Mary Poppins musical when I was in primary school... I may be bias.

Recommend watching the Korean comedy movie Extreme Job.

A team of narcotics detectives goes undercover in a fried chicken joint to stake out an organised crime gang. But things take an unexpected turn when the detectives' chicken recipe suddenly transforms the rundown restaurant into the hottest eatery in town.
