Used to regularly donate "back home", but apparently I ate too many burgers as a kid, so I too am another Mad Cow unfortunately.

How ridiculous, I just looked to see if I could register to donate bone marrow (being from the UK).

Apparently, because the bone marrow registration is done firstly via the blood service, and the UK residency excludes me from registering/donating blood then I can't register to be tissue typed for bone marrow (even though it appears that being from the UK does not preclude you from bone marrow donation).

BUT if I had been on a UK bone marrow register, I could have transferred that to the Australian register and be able to donate.

So, paperwork and bureaucracy gets in the way of potentially being able to do some good!

No idea how old you are and a very handsome photograph but there are age limits to marrow. I registered donkeys years ago and when I commented a year or two ago (there had a poster up at my local blood bank asking people to register) the staff said as I was registered already they do not remove you, but they do not accept donor registrations from people over a certain, wise, age. Which I can't recall :) but I was past it.

I haven't donated in a few years now. My previous workplace wasn't near any donation centres and it was too inconvenient in the end. I changed jobs at the end of last year and haven't really looked into nearby donation centres. If I find one nearby, I might see if others in the company want to do it.

I give blood (not Plasma) twice a month (lucky me with a medical reason to do this !!). The bickie makes it all worthwhile.

If you get a bunch of people from work to commit, the blood centre will probably organise a mini bus to pick you up!

Went to the UK 2 years after their cutoff date (1996 I think) so I have been able to answer that question fine and give blood in Spain a few times now.

I can't donate because I was there during the mad cow time.

    That may explain some things.

    That too.

I'd rather say that than say it goes towards my sense of humour.

Used to donate regularly as i used to work in a hospital....hit and miss as i was sub 50kg in some months...the nurse use to hate the slow flow and drip...

But i have since resumed donating as i have ballooned to 57kg...should be good as i have a not so common blood type too!

Yeah I regularly pass out after I reach the 90% mark if they try to get the last bit, irrespective of chugging water or anything else, so I usually stop once flow stops and it's a useable amount. My SIL got banned for passing out, haven't been back since I found that out but will restart again soon.
